If you have recently gone to a state college or university or if you have a child in any grade school there is a good chance you have heard of McGraw-Hill company. They have a few different systems that are used for students but never the less, whatever it is you learn in those classes are learned by McGraw Hill period. Some might wonder how a company like that was able to get such a huge contract passed, not only selling books, but actually being declared the ones that actually teach you. I am sure not many schools would like the fact that their classes are run by a corporate computer program that who knows is behind the learning steps. If in the recent years taking a business degree program at most state universities, you might have thought to yourself how anyone could have delivered your finance classes, it didn’t matter if the professor had 30 years experience in real world CPA firms, it didn’t matter if the professor did audits for one of the big auditing firms. it just didn’t matter if it was a gym teacher or a certified public accountant. All they have to do is relay the information off of the program that someone over at McGraw Hill decides you need to know. This ladies and gentlemen is higher education today. What ever happened to learning from the professor? Learning what he or she used in the real world for so many years.
Who or what is McGraw-Hill?
McGraw Hill is the parent company for several other companies such as Standard and Poor’s, Platt’s, JD Power and Associates and McGraw Hill Construction. In 2013 McGraw Hill sold it’s entire educational division for 2.5 Billion dollars to the massive Apollo Global Management company. McGraw Hill develops entire educations systems to be used at all levels of schools. We found it very strange that a McGraw Hill educational system over rides that of the professor, therefore the professor adds very little and the education obtained from each student across several universities and across several states will be the same as long as they too are using the system. McGraw Hill is also a top developer in the recent Common Core program that was basically forced into states with statements stating it was about making students learn better for more global competence. You can read an article on the 5 states that said no to common core here. Ironically as jeb Bush was one of the republicans that was backing and pushing Common Core, it wasn’t very surprising to find that Barbara Bush is in fact on the McGraw Hill advisory board.
We feel it is important to note what and who Apollo Management is as Apollo is massive and owns a large amount of large companies, many of which are admired by younger crowds, such as American Idol and Claire’s as well as Cruise lines, Ceaser’s entertainment, GNC vitamins, AMC movies and many many more on the list. In fact Apollo has acquired much of the real estate loans domestically and internationally as well as tons of assets from Resolution Trust which is a government owned asset company, which you can read about here.
Why is it strange that these monster companies are teaching the citizens?
It is clearly wrong that over the last few years a corporation such as this had the ability to take the job of teachers across the USA and globally. If I was a school manager, I would want to boast about our professors, that we have a biology professor with over 20 years experience working for a bio firm. Or that we have a long time CPA working as our accounting professor, but instead these professors are locked down to what McGraw Hill gives them. All of the work is done by McGraw Hill questions online. We find it disturbing that the very same company behind Common Core is the leader in educational systems for higher education as well throughout the college system. They capture the children all the way through the college system and more disturbing is they also control what you see or hear on TV via youth programs such as American Idol and all the other shows that appeal to youth today.
